Ratan Tata, Mumbai:�Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Group and a distinguished industrialist, passed away at the age of 86 on Wednesday evening (October 9, 2024) at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.
Ratan Tata, often referred to as "RNT" within the Tata Group, led the company for over two decades as chairman, leaving behind a legacy of strong leadership and dedication to social causes. He was chosen as the successor to J.R.D Tata in 1990. During his early years as chairman, Tata faced opposition from several powerful figures who controlled key parts of the company. By the mid-1990s, he successfully streamlined the leadership, consolidating his control. He is widely recognized for transforming Tata into a global entity and elevating its standing.
The Tata Group was founded by Jamsetji Tata, who was a pioneer in industries such as textiles and steel. Jamsetji and his wife Heerabai Daboo had three children: Sir Dorabji Tata, Dhunbai Tata, and Sir Ratan Tata (senior). Sir Ratan Tata married Navjbai Sett, and they later adopted Naval H Tata.
Naval Tata, in his first marriage to Sonoo Commissariat, had two sons: Ratan N Tata and Jimmy N Tata. Afterward, he married Simone Tata, and together they had a son named Noel Tata.
Ratan and Jimmy remained unmarried. Noel married Aloo Mistry, the sister of the late Cyrus Mistry, who also served as chairman of Tata Group. Noel and Aloo have three children: Leah Tata, Maya Tata, and Neville Tata.
