France, Paris: Geghard Mansourian, the Armenian representative from Iran’s central Isfahan province, expressed his outrage in an interview with IRNA on Tuesday regarding an incident at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Mansourian denounced the disrespect shown towards religious sanctities as "unacceptable" and urged Christian leaders globally to take a strong stance against it.
This incident is not an isolated case, he noted, and the Christian community should not remain passive. He elaborated that Armenian and Assyrian Christian representatives in the Iranian Parliament had issued a statement condemning the offensive act.
Describing the opening ceremony of the Paris Summer Games as "very disgusting," Mansourian criticized what he described as insulting actions and inappropriate behaviors, attributing these to Western support and the silence of religious figures.
The controversy centered around a parody of Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting,
The Last Supper, during the Olympic opening ceremony. This portrayal has angered Christians worldwide, who felt that their beliefs were mocked in front of a global audience.
