Sicily, Italy: A luxury yacht, the British-flagged "Bayesian," sank off the coast of Sicily amid a violent storm on Monday, leaving six people, including British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his daughter, missing. The yacht, anchored near Porticello, was struck by severe weather that has recently plagued Italy, resulting in the death of one person, Ricardo Thomas, an Antiguan citizen and the yacht's chef. Fifteen others managed to escape, including Lynch’s wife and a one-year-old girl.
Search and Investigation Ongoing
Rescue teams have resumed their search for the missing individuals, which include Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and Chris Morvillo, a lawyer who represented Lynch in a U.S. trial, along with their wives. Specialist divers reached the sunken vessel, now resting 50 meters underwater, but faced obstacles preventing full access. Prosecutors in Termini Imerese have launched an investigation into the incident. The stormy weather follows a period of intense heat in the Mediterranean, which experts believe may have contributed to the extreme conditions.
