Tara Sreekrishnan, the daughter of Indian immigrants, is an elected member of the Santa Clara County Board of Education and is running as a Democratic candidate for the California State Assembly to represent District 26. Her campaign emphasizes the need for high-quality education for every child, drawing from her own experiences as a child of immigrant parents who faced challenges in accessing healthcare and affordable housing in Silicon Valley.
Sreekrishnan's journey is inspired by Vice President Kamala Harris, and she believes in the importance of diverse voices in politics. While she acknowledges that Indian-Americans are still growing their political influence in Silicon Valley, she aims to amplify this voice in decision-making processes. Her extensive experience in public service includes roles as a legislative advisor and policy director at various government levels.
In addition to her education policy work, Sreekrishnan co-founded the nonprofit Silicon Valley Youth Climate Action, promoting environmental sustainability and engaging young people in activism. A cancer survivor, she advocates for women’s health and reproductive rights, highlighting her personal experiences with the healthcare system's shortcomings.
Sreekrishnan's Indian heritage plays a significant role in her drive to serve and advocate for equity and access to opportunities for all families in California. She views her family's journey as a motivation to continue working towards positive change in her community.
