Indian-American Sharad Desai Confirmed as Federal Judge for Arizona with Bipartisan Support

Phoenix, Arizona: Sharad Desai, a prominent Indian-American attorney, has been confirmed by the US Senate as a district judge for the District of Arizona. His confirmation on November 21 marked a significant milestone, as he secured a decisive bipartisan vote of 82-12.

Desai currently serves as vice president and general counsel for Honeywell International’s Integrated Supply Chain and Information Technology Divisions. Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, an independent, praised Desai's qualifications, describing him as a distinguished member of Arizona’s legal community with the experience, integrity, and intellect needed to excel as a federal judge.

Sinema also highlighted her role in ensuring bipartisan support for Desai's confirmation, stating, "I’m proud to have personally secured his strong, bipartisan confirmation by the US Senate."

Notably, Desai's confirmation stood out among judicial nominees considered this week, many of whom narrowly passed along party lines. His 82 votes represented the highest tally among the group.

Sharad Desai is the brother of Judge Roopali Desai, who serves on the US Court of Appeals, further showcasing the family's significant contributions to the judiciary.

Earlier this year, two other Arizonans, Angela Martinez and Krissa Lanham, were confirmed as federal judges with 66 votes each. Sinema played a pivotal role in advocating for all three appointments, emphasizing her dedication to strengthening Arizona’s judiciary.
