JK Rowling Criticizes US Study on Puberty Blockers, Cites Political Cover-Up

JK Rowling shared a screenshot of an unpublished US study on puberty blockers, highlighting concerns over political interference. The study, conducted by Dr. Since 2015, Johanna Olson-Kennedy has monitored 95 transgender youth over a two-year period but did not observe notable improvements in their mental health. Despite this, Olson-Kennedy delayed publishing the results, fearing misuse in the current political climate, especially in states that have banned such treatments. Rowling criticized the withholding of this data, sarcastically suggesting that the reluctance to publish was to prevent evidence of harm to children from being used against proponents of puberty blockers.

Rowling’s outspoken views on gender identity, particularly her opposition to transgender treatments and gender-affirming care, have sparked ongoing debate. She has also criticized the inclusion of trans women in sports, as seen in her comments on Algerian Olympic boxer Imane Khelif. Rowling’s stance on biological sex has garnered support from political figures like Kemi Badenoch, who even suggested Rowling receive a peerage for her views. However, Rowling revealed she has declined peerage offers twice before and would do so again.
