Kamala Harris to Discuss Israel Arms Embargo with Non-Aligned Movement

US, Michigan: Kamala Harris faces backlash from the Uncommitted Movement over US support for Israel. The campaign denies an arms embargo discussion and defends Israel’s right to self-defense.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris recently faced scrutiny from the National Uncommitted Movement, which is urging Democrats to boycott the upcoming presidential election in protest of the U.S. Backing Israel in its struggle against Hamas. The organization claimed that Harris had agreed to discuss an arms embargo on Israel. However, Harris’s campaign denied this, stating that while she had referred the group's leaders to her team, she did not commit to discussing an embargo. Instead, her campaign emphasized her focus on ensuring Israel's defense and working towards a cease-fire and a hostage deal.

During a recent rally in Michigan, where Harris was interrupted by pro-Palestinian demonstrators accusing her of complicity in Gaza's suffering, the Uncommitted Movement's founders met with Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. The founders, Abbas Alawieh and Layla Elabed presented their demands for an arms embargo. Elabed, visibly emotional, urged Harris to address the crisis in Gaza, highlighting the significant losses within the Palestinian community.

The movement previously influenced voters to abstain from supporting President Joe Biden in Michigan's primaries over his wartime policies. As Michigan holds substantial electoral importance due to its large Arab American population, Harris’s campaign is keenly aware of the need to address these concerns while securing crucial votes.
