Born as Balkaran Brar, the name “Lawrence Bishnoi” has various stories surrounding its origins, which he took on during his school years.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) reports that Bishnoi's criminal network has continued to grow even after spending ten years in prison. This information is detailed in a 128-page chargesheet filed in March 2023 concerning an Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) case involving him and 15 others.
In 2021, while a team from the Delhi Police was on the trail of a murder suspect, they unexpectedly ended up in a village in Punjab's Sangrur district. The suspect, Mohammad Shahrukh, who was linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and based in Delhi, had made a quick stop to attend a private horse auction.
The investigation uncovered that the highest bid in the auction, amounting to Rs 95 lakh, was submitted by a baba associated with a local dera. The second highest bid of Rs 90 lakh came from a representative of actor Salman Khan. In the absence of Khan, Shahrukh reportedly chose to focus on the winning baba, allegedly extorting Rs 1 crore from him in the process.
