PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) - OMSI welcomed the Burnside Bridge team to discuss the redesign of the 98-year-old bridge.
The goal of the redesign is to enhance the bridge's ability to withstand an earthquake, a capability currently lacking in any of the downtown Portland bridges spanning the Willamette River.
A member of the redesign board expressed concerns about the construction's impact on the city's longstanding skate park.
“So far, the project has done a great job of including us in the process since we literally have a seat at the table. However, it’s still going to be an issue. We’re looking at four or five years or more of displacement, so we want to ensure that we are considered and that the design minimizes our displacement,” said one team member.
The survey to vote on the redesign options for the bridge will be available online starting July 31.
