Russia and Iran Set to Finalize Strategic Partnership Agreement Soon

Russia, Moscow: Russia and Iran to finalize a strategic partnership agreement, deepening cooperation to counter sanctions and boost bilateral relations.

The proposal from the Russian Foreign Ministry, coordinated with relevant federal government bodies and organizations, to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran has been approved. This decision was published on Russia’s legal information system website on Wednesday evening.

During a recent high-level meeting between the two nations, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Sergei Shoigu, the Secretary of Russia's Security Council, in Tehran.

The Iranian president affirmed that his administration is committed to advancing cooperation and enhancing ties between the two countries. He noted that strengthening the relationship between Iran and Russia would help reduce the impact of sanctions and unfair actions imposed on both nations.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a meeting with Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, during the BRICS summit in St. Petersburg, expressed Russia's support for Iran's transit route.

Putin also characterized the bilateral relations between Moscow and Tehran as strategic, emphasizing the unity of both nations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, while addressing professors and students at a university under the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the comprehensive cooperation agreement between Moscow and Tehran would be finalized soon. Lavrov highlighted that this agreement, with only technical details remaining, will mark a symbolic step in the relationship with Iran’s new government and will cover all areas of partnership between the two countries.
