Maryland, USA: The University of Maryland (UMD) has announced Richa Mathur, the assistant director of executive and faculty affairs in the computer science department, as the recipient of its esteemed MVP Impact Award. This honor recognizes staff members who embody the university’s “Fearlessly Forward” philosophy.
Mathur, selected from a competitive pool of over 230 candidates, was acknowledged for her exceptional efforts in fostering an inclusive and collaborative atmosphere within the university. As part of the recognition, she will receive a $1,000 cash prize and will be formally honored at an awards ceremony in February 2025.
“I’m truly humbled to receive this award,” Mathur expressed. “Being part of such a dynamic and inclusive community has been an incredible experience. This recognition motivates me to keep striving for excellence and to support the university’s mission wholeheartedly.”
In her role, Mathur oversees critical functions such as faculty recruitment, promotion, and tenure processes, in addition to managing departmental communications. She is also instrumental in organizing events that strengthen relationships among faculty, staff, and students.

Reflecting on her seven-year tenure at UMD, which began with a contingent I position, Mathur shared, “Working alongside such inspiring colleagues on innovative initiatives has been a privilege. Receiving this award feels like a recognition of those collective efforts, and I’m excited to continue finding ways to make a meaningful difference.”
The MVP Impact Award ceremony will serve as an opportunity to celebrate Mathur’s accomplishments and the significant role she has played in advancing the university’s values and goals.
