India Rules Out Retaliatory Tariffs on U.S., Seeks Diplomatic Solution Amid Trump Trade Moves

Due to the tariffs announced by U.S. President Trump, global markets were shaken, resulting in the evaporation of wealth worth lakhs of crores. The massive crash witnessed during the COVID period has now resurfaced due to Trump’s tariffs. In retaliation, China also raised its tariffs, increasing them by nearly 34%. Responding to this, Trump remarked that China was scared.

India has now responded to this issue. When asked whether India would impose retaliatory tariffs on the U.S., a senior official clarified that there would be no such reaction from India. However, the official stated that Prime Minister Modi is exploring avenues to seek relief from the tariffs imposed by Trump. They also mentioned that discussions have already been held with Washington. In fact, compared to other Asian countries, India seems to be in a relatively better position.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Trump defended the trade war, stating that sometimes “medicine” is necessary to deal with problems. He asserted that there’s no question of reducing tariffs. However, Trump did say that some countries have come forward for talks, and he noted that Asian nations are among them.
