5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts San Diego, Shakes Southern California and Mexico

Earthquakes continue to strike various parts of the world. Recently, earthquakes hit Myanmar and Bangkok, causing tall buildings to collapse like a house of cards. There was massive property damage and dozens of deaths. Similarly, on Monday at 10:08 AM, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck near San Diego, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter was recorded 2.49 miles south of Julian in San Diego County. According to the USGS map, the tremors were felt widely across Southern California and Mexico. Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones said the quake may be linked to the Elsinore Fault, a major branch of the San Andreas Fault system. She added that the earthquake occurred at a depth of eight miles beneath the earth's surface. A 3.3 magnitude tremor on Sunday in the same region was likely a foreshock to the 5.2 quake.

The quake triggered strong reactions across Southern California and Mexico. No injuries or major damages were reported. Officials said at least seven aftershocks followed the initial quake. A resident in Carlsbad said they felt a violent shake lasting nearly 10 seconds, calling it the strongest quake in years. Ashley Pinnick from Ramona said the ceiling of her home cracked, and she feared the roof would collapse, prompting her to rush everyone outside in panic.
