Myanmar is being rocked by a series of earthquakes. It is already known that a massive earthquake of 7.7 magnitude struck the country on the 28th of last month, resulting in the death of thousands of people. Before the memory of that incident fades, a fresh round of tremors is causing new concerns. Most recently, on Monday morning, the region experienced two separate earthquakes within hours of each other.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first earthquake occurred at around 1:30 AM on Monday with a magnitude of 4.5. The epicenter was located at a depth of 10 kilometers. Just hours later, at 10:06 AM, another tremor was recorded. This time, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.1 and originated 103 kilometers deep underground. Since these two quakes occurred within a 24-hour span, officials stated that they were of mild intensity and caused no loss of life or property.
On Sunday morning as well, Myanmar experienced an earthquake. The country’s weather department reported that tremors were felt near Wundwin town, about 97 kilometers south of Mandalay. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located between Myanmar's capital Naypyidaw and its second-largest city, Mandalay. It is also noted that the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake on the 28th of the previous month claimed over 3,000 lives and injured nearly 5,000 people. Relief efforts are still ongoing in the affected regions.
