In the Gabon presidential elections, military leader Brice Oligui Nguema won a resounding victory. Nguema, who led the military coup in Gabon in 2023, secured an overwhelming 90% of the votes, according to the country's Ministry of Interior.
A total of eight candidates contested the elections, with Nguema's main rival, Ali Bongo's opponent, Alain-Claude Bilie By Nze, receiving only 3% of the votes. The remaining six candidates failed to secure any significant share of the votes. After his victory was announced, Nguema promised in a media statement to restore the honor of the people of Gabon and to work towards returning the resources taken by past rulers to the citizens.
