Google Announces Major Layoffs Amid Global Tech Job Cuts

Job cuts in the tech sector are continuing worldwide. Due to economic instability, pressure in global markets, tariff wars, recession fears in the U.S., declining profits, and the rise of AI usage—companies are looking to cut costs. As part of this, many are laying off a large number of employees. So far this year, around 100 companies have laid off more than 27,000 employees. Now, the global tech giant Google has announced layoffs.

Google has announced layoffs for hundreds of employees working in the Android software, Pixel phones, and Chrome browser divisions. According to national media, the news came to light through an internal source at the company. However, the exact number of affected employees is still unclear. It's worth noting that four months ago, in December 2024, Google announced layoffs for 10% of its workforce. Prior to that, in January 2023, Google had laid off 12,000 employees.

In recent times, both small and large companies have been laying off employees on a large scale, citing various reasons. According to data from Layoffs.fyi, in 2025 alone, 100 tech companies have already laid off 27,762 employees. In the previous year (2024), 549 tech companies laid off 152,472 employees. And in 2023, 1,193 companies let go of 264,220 employees.
