Indian Medical Student Death at Texas Tech: Family Alleges Staff Intimidation

El Paso, Texas, USA: The family of Indian-origin medical student Vaibhav Duggal has claimed that pressure and administrative lapses by university personnel played a role in his death at a Texas medical school. Duggal, a medical student and doctoral researcher at Texas Tech University Health and Science Center El Paso, died by suicide in July 2025.

Earlier this month, the family released a YouTube video outlining what they describe as ongoing intimidation, coercive conduct, and violations of due process by officials at the institution. To support their claims, they shared internal email exchanges and transcripts from meetings, which they say provide new insight into the circumstances leading up to Duggal’s death.

According to the family, Duggal was subjected to threats of potential dismissal following an incident that occurred during routine clinical responsibilities. They allege that the matter was neither properly examined nor independently confirmed by the university before action was taken. Until the video was published on January 3, the family said very little information about the situation had been available to the public.

A family spokesperson stated that the university has not expressed regret or contacted them to offer condolences, calling the lack of response shocking given that Duggal was regarded as one of the institution’s outstanding students.

The video also highlights what the family describes as wider structural problems within the university, including alleged bias in investigative processes, inadequate attention to student mental health, administrative impropriety, and leadership that fails to respond appropriately to trauma. They emphasized that these concerns are not limited to Duggal’s case alone.

Since going public, the video has attracted considerable attention, garnering more than 25,000 views and over 350 comments in about ten days. The family added that, after releasing the video, they became aware of additional incidents at the school that they believe have not been publicly reported.

“We hope this encourages others to speak up and share their experiences, potentially helping someone before it is too late,” the spokesperson said. The family stated that they are seeking accountability and justice and can be contacted through NPCS Group or via an online support platform created in Duggal’s memory.
