Palm Coast, Florida, USA: A 22-year-old Indian-origin man has been arrested in the US state of Florida after authorities accused him of driving at speeds of up to 125 mph while dangerously weaving through traffic on Interstate-95.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, the accused, identified as Arul Nayak of Palm Coast, was spotted by Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly, who was travelling in an unmarked agency vehicle with his wife on the way to a dinner meeting.

Officials said Sheriff Staly used his vehicle's certified speedometer to track the Dodge Challenger as it travelled between 115 mph and 125 mph for nearly six miles. During that time, the driver allegedly crossed all three lanes of traffic and passed dangerously close to slower-moving vehicles.

The sheriff later activated the vehicle's emergency lights and siren, after which the driver pulled over on Interstate-95 near Old Dixie Highway in Volusia County. Authorities confirmed that Nayak was taken into custody without incident.

Nayak has been charged with willful and wanton reckless driving as well as violating Florida's Super Speeder law. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail and released on a USD 500 bond, according to officials.

Authorities stated that Nayak has no prior criminal record. During the arrest, he reportedly informed Sheriff Staly that he had a final pilot examination scheduled for Saturday and hoped to be released in time to attend it.

Commenting on the incident, Sheriff Rick Staly said driving at such extreme speeds while weaving through traffic was a conscious decision that put the lives of other motorists, as well as the passengers inside the vehicle, at serious risk.
