Indian-Origin US Politician Anand Shah Charged in Mafia-Style Gambling Operation

In New York, allegations have been made against Anand Shah, an Indian-origin municipal councilor, regarding involvement in a gambling operation. The New Jersey Attorney General, Matthew Platkin, stated that charges have been filed against him for running a mafia-style gambling operation. It has been revealed that Anand Shah was involved in racketeering, gambling, and money laundering. The Attorney General confirmed that he is among 39 individuals charged in the case. After conducting inspections in 12 locations across the state, these allegations were filed, and raids were carried out at four poker clubs.

Another Indian-origin individual from Florida, Samir S. Nandakerni, has also been charged. He is accused of being a poker host. Anand Shah is emerging as a significant political figure in New Jersey, serving his second term as a municipal councilor in the Prospect Park area near New York. He holds the positions of finance, economic development, and insurance in the council. The Attorney General pointed out that the arrest of an elected council member leads to the loss of public trust in elected officials.

Under the guise of sports book gambling, betting is being organized on sports tournaments. It has been revealed that a gambling operation worth approximately three million dollars is being run. The Attorney General emphasized that while mafia operations are often romanticized in movies and TV shows, in reality, they break laws, lead to money, control, and violence.
