Jersey City, New Jersey, USA: A recent social media post by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding missing Indian student Mayushi Bhagat has sparked widespread confusion among users, as the case dates back to 2019 and no new developments have been reported.
The FBI reiterated its earlier announcement offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Bhagat’s recovery. However, the details shared in the post were not new, prompting many to question whether there had been any fresh progress in the investigation.
Mayushi Bhagat was last seen on the evening of April 29, 2019, leaving her apartment in New Jersey. At the time, she was reportedly wearing colorful pajama pants and a black T-shirt. Her family officially reported her missing on May 1, 2019.
Bhagat was a student at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in New York City and was residing in the United States on an F-1 student visa.
According to initial reports, her father, Vikas Bhagat, filed a complaint after she failed to return home as expected. He informed authorities that his last communication with her was via WhatsApp on May 1 around 3 a.m., during which she stated that she was safe but would not return home until May 3.
However, the message raised concerns. Vikas Bhagat noted that the text was written in broken English, which was unusual given his daughter’s fluency. This led him to suspect that someone else may have been using her phone at the time.
The FBI’s recent post triggered strong reactions on social media, with several users expressing frustration over the lack of progress in the case even after several years. Many questioned the timing of the post, assuming it indicated a new development, while others criticized the authorities for failing to resolve the case.
Despite repeated appeals and ongoing awareness efforts, the disappearance of Mayushi Bhagat remains unsolved, continuing to raise concerns about the safety of international students in the United States.
