Pakistan Grants 6,500 Visas for Vaisakhi Pilgrims Visiting Sacred Sikh Shrines

The Vaisakhi festival in Pakistan is scheduled to be held from April 10 to 19. During this period, pilgrims traveling to Pakistan will visit sacred sites such as Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Gurdwara Nankana Sahib, and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib. Recently, Pakistan High Commission’s Charge d’Affaires Saad Ahmad Warraich spoke to the media, stating that “the large number of visas issued by the Pakistan government is aimed at promoting harmony between the people of both countries, and fostering mutual understanding between cultures and religions.” He added that Pakistan will continue to facilitate visits to such sacred places in the future.

According to Saifullah Khokhar, a representative of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), this is the first time in 50 years that more than the standard 3,000 visas have been issued under the 1974 'Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines'. The main event of the Vaisakhi celebrations, under the supervision of ETPB, will take place on April 14 at Gurdwara Janmasthan in Nankana Sahib. He also stated that for Sikhs, Pakistan is like a second home and that they are fully prepared to warmly welcome the pilgrims arriving for the festival.

In the past, the main Vaisakhi event was usually held at Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal. However, due to the increase in the number of pilgrims this year, it has been decided to hold the event at Nankana Sahib instead.
