Second Major Earthquake Strikes Papua New Guinea in a Week

A massive earthquake has struck Papua New Guinea, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, for the second time in a week. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred 115 kilometers southeast of the town of Kokopo. The epicenter was located at a depth of 72 kilometers (44 miles). No tsunami warnings have been issued at this time.

This is the second earthquake in Papua New Guinea in just one week. Exactly a week ago, on the same day, the earth shook in the New Britain province, specifically near the town of Kimbe. The earthquake occurred 194 kilometers away from Kimbe, at a depth of 10 kilometers. A tsunami warning was issued following that earthquake.With consecutive earthquakes occurring in the region, the local population is now experiencing significant fear and anxiety.
