Trump Administration Cancels Visas for Foreign Students, MIT and Universities Protest

Washington: The Trump administration, which has already made it clear that individuals with anti-national ideologies will not be allowed to stay in the United States, is continuing its policy of canceling the visas of foreign students studying at various universities. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), renowned worldwide for its scientific and technical research education, has also been affected by this visa cancellation.

The Republican government has already canceled the visas of students, researchers, and both teaching and non-teaching staff at several universities, but MIT University has criticized this move, stating that they did not even explain the reasons for the visa cancellations. The university recently revealed that 9 foreign students' visas were canceled without any explanation. According to CBS media reports, the Trump administration has abruptly canceled the visas of nearly 530 students, staff, and researchers at 88 colleges and universities across the country. MIT’s President Sally Kornbluth expressed her strong displeasure regarding the visa cancellations at their university.

The university sent a letter on Monday to the concerned authorities, stating, “The sudden actions taken to disrupt students’ education after April 4th are completely unacceptable. No prior information was given, nor were reasons provided for the cancellations. These decisions will damage the university’s ability to attract the most talented foreign students, and it will affect the university’s activities. It will make it extremely difficult for our university to remain a global leader in scientific and technical research. This will hinder the country’s prosperity through new research and innovations.”
