Adelaide, South Australia, Australia: Vikrant Thakur has reportedly acknowledged responsibility for his wife’s death after acting on legal advice. The accused, who faces charges related to the killing of his wife, Supriya Thakur, made a startling admission during proceedings at the Adelaide Magistrates Court on January 14.
Supriya Thakur, aged 36, was discovered deceased inside a home located in Adelaide’s northern suburbs on December 21. Police arrived at the residence after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident. Vikrant was allegedly taken into custody at the scene and subsequently charged with murder.
The 41-year-old Indian national appeared before the court on December 22 and did not apply for bail. While remaining in custody, he later appeared via video link and admitted to causing his wife’s death. However, he formally pleaded guilty to manslaughter while maintaining a not guilty plea to the murder charge, according to reports by ABC News.
Sources indicate that Vikrant made the admission after consulting with his legal counsel, James Marcus. Prior to this development, prosecutors had asked the court to delay proceedings for 16 weeks, citing the need to complete outstanding forensic work, including post-mortem findings and DNA analysis.
Following this significant confession, the case is scheduled to resume in court in April.
Meanwhile, friends and members of the local community have created an anonymous fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, which has raised more than $11,000 to support Supriya’s son. The fundraiser notes that Supriya worked extended hours and dreamed of becoming a registered nurse, motivated by her passion for helping others and securing a better life for her child.
