5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tibet

A powerful 5.7 magnitude tremor shook Tibet at 2:41 AM IST on May 12, 2025, as confirmed by the National Center for Seismology. Originating at a depth of just 10 km, the shallow epicenter raises the probability of subsequent aftershocks. So far, there have been no confirmed injuries or structural losses.

Interestingly, the area had already witnessed a 3.7 magnitude tremor on May 8. Earthquakes closer to the surface often generate intense ground motion, making them more hazardous than deeper ones. Tibet often experiences quakes due to its seismic location.
