At Least 160 Dead, Hundreds Missing In Pakistan Flash Floods

Severe monsoon rains and sudden cloudbursts have caused devastating flash floods and landslides in northern Pakistan, leaving at least 160 dead in Buner and destroying hundreds of homes. Authorities have declared a state of emergency.

In Bajaur, a military helicopter delivering relief supplies crashed, killing all five onboard. Meanwhile, rescuers in Mansehra saved 1,300 stranded tourists, though 35 people are still missing. Officials have issued ongoing heavy rain warnings.

Since June 26, Pakistan has witnessed 556 fatalities linked to heavy rainfall, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for immediate evacuations and relief support.

Floods and landslides have also struck northern India, with 60 fatalities reported in a cloudburst in Kishtwar. The region’s annual pilgrimage has been temporarily suspended.
