Chicago, USA: Bill Gates Commits $200 Billion for a Better World by 2045, Urges Fellow Billionaires to Join
Bill Gates has announced a bold plan to contribute $200 billion by 2045 to improve global living conditions. In a recent blog post, he outlined his intention to allocate these funds through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation over the next two decades. He also called on other billionaires to intensify their philanthropic efforts.
Despite concerns about challenges like climate change and reduced foreign aid from Western governments, Gates remains optimistic about the future. In an interview with The New York Times, he acknowledged that while he may appear overly hopeful, his outlook is grounded in realism. He believes significant strides can be made in health, education, and poverty alleviation worldwide over the next 20 years.
Gates warned of a looming funding shortfall caused by foreign aid cuts, emphasizing that no charity alone can bridge the gap left by government pullbacks. Nevertheless, he reiterated his foundation's commitment to distributing the full $200 billion before closing it permanently.
His vision focuses on reducing maternal and infant mortality, eliminating diseases like malaria, polio, and measles, and lifting millions—especially in African nations—out of poverty through improved education and agricultural practices. Gates also pointed to advances in technology and artificial intelligence as key drivers of future progress, though he cautioned against viewing AI as a cure-all.
"There has never been a better opportunity to help people lead healthier, more prosperous lives," Gates wrote, underscoring the importance of coordinated, sustained global action.
