Blaise Metreweli Makes History As First Female MI6 Chief

In a landmark moment for British intelligence, Blaise Metreweli has been appointed as the first woman to lead the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the decision as “historic.”

At 47, Metreweli brings more than 20 years of expertise to the role, having started her career with MI6 back in 1999.

She currently oversees the agency’s technology and innovation division and will take over from outgoing chief Sir Richard Moore later this year.

The MI6 Chief, known by the codename ‘C’, is the only member of the agency whose identity is made public and holds direct accountability to the UK Foreign Secretary. Metreweli said she feels “honoured” to step into the role.
