Brampton Extortion Case: Indian Man Flees After Gunmen Threaten Family

Brampton, Ontario, Canada: An Indian national who moved to Canada three years ago and runs an immigration and education consultancy has reported a serious extortion threat after gunmen fired multiple shots at his home in Brampton. According to a report by CTV News, the shooting occurred last weekend while he, his wife, and child were inside. A day later, he received a video allegedly showing the attack, followed by a demand for 500,000 dollars and a threat that his family would be killed if he failed to pay within 24 hours.

The victim, who requested anonymity, said the attackers first sent the video and then called him directly. Security footage from a neighbor confirmed that at least eight bullets were fired, damaging vehicles and the garage door. Fearing for his family’s safety, he has permanently left his residence near Sandalwood Parkway and Creditview Road and says he does not plan to return, adding that he has no idea why he was targeted.

Peel Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing, with no suspect details released so far. The case is being handled by the Extortion Investigations Task Force, formed in 2024 amid a surge in similar cases affecting the South Asian business community. Patrick Brown, the Mayor of Brampton, has urged the federal government for more support, warning that without additional resources, communities remain vulnerable to organized cross-border extortion networks.
