Alpharetta, Georgia, USA: Rock Mill Park in Alpharetta became a lively centre of excitement as over 100 spectators gathered for the Sewa International Women’s Cricket Tournament. The event, organised by Neetu Chauhan and Vijay Vaghela with contributions from Vijay G, Manoj Sharma, Srikanth Tirumala, Praveen Lambade, Sai, and Jitendra Singh, went beyond cricket, blending sportsmanship with community engagement and charitable efforts.
The tournament aimed to raise funds for Sewa’s ASPIRE Program, which supports K–8 education in underprivileged communities. All proceeds from the event were directed toward this initiative, giving the matches a meaningful purpose that extended well beyond the cricket pitch.
Five enthusiastic teams took part in the competition: Firebirds, Dazz Sports Desi Smashers, Fullcity Wonder Women, Supernovas, and BMP Strikers. Despite temperatures soaring between 80 85 F, players displayed fierce competitiveness while maintaining a friendly spirit. Over the six-hour-long event, every run, boundary, and wicket was met with cheers, showcasing the dedication and sportsmanship of the participants.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Vikas Arora, Southeast Regional Director of Sewa, whose presence highlighted the significance of the day.
A hallmark of the event was its family-friendly environment. Children actively participated by distributing snacks and water to players during intervals, while families enjoyed the excitement together. The sense of camaraderie and mutual support created an atmosphere that extended beyond the cricket field, making the event a genuine celebration of community.
In the finals, the Firebirds emerged victorious, defeating the Dazz Sports Desi Smashers, who finished as runners-up. Although the Firebirds lifted the trophy, organisers and participants emphasised that the real achievement was the sense of empowerment, unity, and joy that the tournament fostered.
By directing all proceeds to the ASPIRE Program, the event ensured that its impact would be felt in the educational lives of children, extending far beyond the cricket grounds.
The Sewa Women’s Cricket Tournament will be remembered not only for its exciting matches but also as a powerful example of women’s athletic talent, the strength of community bonds, and the joy of giving back. For everyone involved—players and spectators alike—it was a day of shared victories and lasting memories.
