New York City, NY, USA: A special concert is set to take place in New York City, organized to commemorate the 80th birthday of the legendary tabla virtuoso Padma Shri Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri.
The New York-based nonprofit organization Suromurchhana, dedicated to Indian classical music, will host the performance on October 25 at Scandinavia House, NYC.
The occasion celebrates the 80th anniversary of the birth of tabla maestro Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, renowned for his mastery of the Lucknow Gharana style and for accompanying legendary musicians such as Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan. He was also awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1996.
The concert, beginning at 6:00 PM, will feature Pandit Chaudhuri alongside eminent musicians Sanjoy Banerjee and Kedar Naphade.
Sanjoy Banerjee is a celebrated vocalist specializing in the Kirana Gharana tradition, while Kedar Naphade is a harmonium maestro acclaimed for his nuanced accompaniment.
The evening will open with a performance by Namami Karmakar, representing the new generation of Indian classical singers. Her repertoire includes renditions of raga, bhajan, and thumri. She will be accompanied by Dibyarka Chatterjee on tabla and Anirban Chakrabarty on harmonium.
The concert will also pay homage to the musical mentors and stalwarts of Sanjoy Banerjee, including Pandit A. Kanan and Vidushi Malabika Kanan.
