Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA: Disturbing footage from a CCTV camera has emerged showing Rakesh Patel, a 50-year-old motel manager of Indian origin from Gujarat, being shot at close range outside the Pittsburgh Motel in Robinson Township, Pennsylvania. The video captures Patel stepping out to address a commotion on October 3, 2025, moments before he was fatally shot in the head.

Shooter Identified and Taken Into Custody

Authorities have identified the suspect as 37-year-old Stanley Eugene West. The shooting reportedly occurred immediately after Patel asked, “Are you alright, bud?” Patel was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman who was present during the incident survived, though her condition has not been disclosed.

Details of the Attack and Police Action

Following the shooting, West allegedly fired at responding officers. Law enforcement managed to apprehend him after a brief confrontation. He is currently in critical condition at a hospital while under police custody. The firearm used in the attack has been recovered, and the investigation is ongoing.

Patel’s Life and Family

Rakesh Patel was originally from Rayam village in Bardoli, Gujarat. He ran the Pittsburgh Motel alongside his wife, Hemu. The couple had recently returned to the United States in October 2024 after attending a family wedding and celebrating Raksha Bandhan in India.

Growing Concern in the Indian Community

This heartbreaking incident represents the third killing of an Indian-origin individual in the United States within the past month. Earlier incidents include the September 10 beheading of an Indian motel manager in Texas and the October 3 shooting of 27-year-old Chandrashekar Pole in Dallas. These consecutive attacks have raised serious safety concerns among the Indian immigrant community in the US.
