Texas, Dallas, USA: In response to the recent fatal attack on Indian national Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah at a Dallas motel, New India Abroad has announced a virtual community gathering.
Titled ‘United Against Intolerance’, the online event is scheduled for September 22 at 1:00 PM EST.
The gathering aims to address the shocking and violent incident involving an Indian national in Dallas, an event that has left the Indian diaspora in the U.S. deeply concerned and saddened.
On September 10, Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old Indian immigrant and motel manager, was seriously attacked. Authorities reported that 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez used a machete during an argument over a broken washing machine, resulting in Nagamallaiah’s death. The attack happened in front of his family, who tried to intervene but were unable to prevent the tragedy.
Focused on solidarity against hostility, aggression, and societal division, the virtual gathering will include messages from members of the U.S. Congress and other public officials.
The event will start with a moment of silence in memory of Nagamallaiah, followed by opening remarks, reflections from community leaders, and a keynote address on acts of intolerance and measures to ensure community safety.
