A powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan late Sunday, devastating villages in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces.
Officials confirmed over 800 deaths and around 2,800 injuries, with the Taliban warning the toll could rise as many areas remain unreachable.
The quake, centred near Jalalabad at a shallow depth, flattened homes and left entire villages destroyed.
Rescue and medical teams from Kabul and nearby provinces are still working in the affected zones.
Jalalabad, a key trade hub near Pakistan, suffered significant damage due to its many poorly built structures.
Afghanistan, prone to frequent quakes, saw an earlier 6.3 magnitude quake in October 2023 that killed thousands, making it one of the nation’s deadliest disasters.
