U.S. President Donald Trump has taken another sensational decision by shutting down the U.S. Education Department. He signed an executive order to implement this move.
Trump had previously stated his intention to bring major changes to the American education system. As part of this, he had already removed a large number of employees from the department. Now, he has officially signed the order to shut it down. During an event at the White House with school students on Thursday, Trump signed the closure orders and announced that the implementation would begin soon.
Trump justified the decision by stating that the Education Department was not providing any significant benefits. He also mentioned that the authority of the department would be transferred back to individual states. However, he assured that student fee discounts and some key educational programs would continue. This decision has sparked strong opposition from Democrats.
