Ghana Helicopter Crash: 8 Dead, Including Government Officials

A military helicopter crash in Ghana on August 6, 2025, killed all eight people aboard, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, a top National Security Adviser, the ruling party’s vice-chair, and crew members.

The helicopter, a Z-9 model, departed from Accra en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti region but lost contact and was later found in Sikaman near Adansi. The cause is under investigation.

The government called it a “national tragedy.” Mourners gathered at officials' residences and party headquarters. Footage from the crash site shows burning wreckage and civilians assisting.

This marks one of Ghana’s worst air disasters in over a decade, following fatal crashes in 2012 and 2014.
