Hajj Yatra 2025: Hajj is considered the most sacred pilgrimage for Muslims. It takes place in the Masjid al-Haram (the Holy Mosque) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Hajj is a fundamental pillar of Islam, requiring every Muslim who is physically and financially capable to perform it at least once in their lifetime. Hajj is conducted annually during the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, Dhul-Hijjah. The pilgrimage occurs from the 8th to the 13th of Dhul-Hijjah, attracting millions of Muslims. During Hajj, pilgrims perform spiritual rituals such as Tawaf (circumambulating the Kaaba), walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah, and participating in special prayers at Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah.
The Hajj pilgrimage in 2025 is expected to take place between June 4 and June 9, based on the sighting of the moon. The exact date of Hajj is determined by the first sighting of the lunar crescent. Since the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, it shifts 11-12 days earlier each year compared to the Gregorian calendar. Therefore, the Hajj dates change every year.
In this context, Saudi Arabia has officially announced that the sacred Hajj pilgrimage will begin on June 4 this year. Saudi Hajj Minister Tawfiq Al-Rabiah stated at a press conference on Monday that over one million pilgrims have already arrived in Saudi Arabia from around the world. Official statistics reveal that 1.8 million Muslims participated in last year’s Hajj. The pilgrimage involves four days of sacred rituals, with the second day at Mount Arafat being a key event where a large number of pilgrims gather for prayers. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad delivered his final sermon at this mountain. This year, the Day of Arafat will fall on June 5, followed by the Eid al-Adha festival on June 6, according to the official Saudi news agency.
