How Did JD Vance Respond to H-1B Visa Concerns Raised by Indian-Origin VC?

JD Vance Addresses H-1B Visa Questions from Indian-Origin Venture Capitalist

Vice President JD Vance recently had a personal interaction with Asha Jadeja Motwani, a prominent venture capitalist of Indian origin based in Silicon Valley. The meeting, which took place in a family setting, also included Vance's wife, Usha Vance, and focused on U.S. immigration policy, particularly the H-1B visa program.

Motwani, known for backing over 100 tech startups, shared a photo from the gathering and highlighted that immigration was a central topic of discussion. She praised JD Vance for engaging in thoughtful conversation and listening attentively to questions posed by about a dozen attendees. "I voiced my worries about immigration, especially the risk of losing top global talent to other countries. JD answered patiently and thoroughly. I'd give him an A+," she wrote.

Reflecting on the political tone of the meeting, Motwani noted that many attendees had been long-time Democrats, much like Vance once was. She mentioned that their shift toward center-right politics created a shared understanding. As a gesture of goodwill, she presented a small Lord Ganesha statue to the couple. "They truly appreciated it. Usha even said her elder son wanted one too. The three of us had a remarkable connection," Motwani added.

The conversation comes at a time of renewed scrutiny around the H-1B visa system, following a USCIS announcement revealing that over 120,000 visas were approved for fiscal year 2026. Critics, including many U.S. tech workers, argue that the program contributes to job losses due to companies opting for lower-cost hires through the H-1 B. The situation has intensified with Walmart recently laying off 1,500 tech employees.
