With Donald Trump taking office for a second term, his administration has intensified its crackdown on illegal immigrants. Any suspicion can lead to deportation, as seen in the case of Indian researcher Bader Khan Suri, who was expelled over alleged ties to Hamas. Earlier, another student, Ranjini Srinivasan, was also deported. In response, India has taken proactive measures.
The Indian government has issued crucial guidelines for Indian students in the U.S., advising them to strictly adhere to American laws. It emphasized that students should comply with all regulations to avoid legal trouble. In case of any difficulties, students have been urged to contact the Indian Embassy or Consulate in the U.S. for assistance.
The Ministry of External Affairs reassured students that embassy and consulate offices are available to provide support when needed. It also clarified that visa and immigration policies are entirely under the jurisdiction of the host country, and it is the responsibility of students to comply with them.
