Anuj Dixit, an Indian American attorney, has officially launched his campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives representing California.
Dixit, a Democrat residing in the Inland Empire, is aiming to unseat Ken Calvert, the long-serving Republican incumbent in California's 41st Congressional District, which covers portions of Riverside County.
'When Ken Calvert first took office 30 years ago, Washington worked for the middle class. Today, that's no longer the case,' Dixit stated, emphasizing his campaign's focus on supporting middle-class families and promoting economic fairness.
In his campaign announcement, Dixit highlighted key goals including 'strengthening the middle class by dismantling corporate monopolies that drive up costs, preventing corporate political action committees from influencing elections, and delivering genuine improvements for working families.'
Dixit was raised on March Air Force Base in Riverside County and is the son of immigrant parents. His father served six years in the U.S. Air Force. Personal tragedies such as losing relatives in the Pan Am 103 bombing and living through the post-9/11 period have motivated his pursuit of justice.
Holding degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Columbia Law School, Dixit has a background in voting rights law, having prepared witnesses and experts for Congressional hearings and clerked for a federal judge. Throughout his legal career, he has advocated for marginalized communities to ensure they have proper representation.
California's 41st Congressional District, covering a large portion of western Riverside County—including cities like Corona, Palm Springs, and Rancho Mirage—is considered a battleground area with a Cook Partisan Voting Index rating of R+2. Calvert, a longtime incumbent since 1992, was re-elected for his 17th term in 2024, earning 51.7% of the vote against Democrat Will Rollins.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has marked the 41st District as a key battleground for the 2026 midterm elections.
