Distressed by the situation, the father immediately dialed 911 and informed officials that his wife had harmed the children. Police officers and emergency medical personnel reached the location at approximately 6:45 pm. Despite their efforts, both children were declared deceased at the scene.

The Somerset County Prosecutors Office stated that preliminary findings suggest the children were killed on the same day. Following the investigation, Natarajan was taken into police custody and formally charged with first-degree murder along with possession of a weapon for illegal use.
