Indian-Origin Cricketer Nitin Murkute Dies After Collapsing During a Match in the US

Morrisville, North Carolina, USA: The unexpected death of a 41-year-old during a league match has deeply impacted the Triangle Cricket community.

Nitin Murkute, an Indian-origin community member and recreational cricketer, died after collapsing while participating in a cricket match in North Carolina on December 13. He was 41 years old.

According to details shared by community members, Murkute collapsed on the field during a league game and was later declared dead. His sudden passing has left the Triangle Cricket community in shock. He was a dedicated participant in local cricket and was actively involved with the Triangle Cricket League and the Morrisville Raptors team.

Murkute is survived by his wife, Rashmi, and their two children, Arnav, aged 14, and Aarna, aged 9. Friends and fellow players shared that he had recently bought a house for his family and was strongly committed to community cricket activities.

Following his death, friends and teammates started a GoFundMe fundraiser to assist the family during this difficult time. As of the publication of this report, the campaign has collected $216,150 toward its $250,000 target, with contributions from around 3,800 donors.

The fundraiser notes that the family is experiencing financial hardship due to Murkute’s sudden passing. It also states that Rashmi holds an H-4 dependent visa, which does not allow her to work.

The raised funds are planned to be used for funeral and memorial costs, immediate financial assistance, educational support for the children, and help with mortgage payments and everyday living expenses.
