Indian-Origin Man Dies After Assault in Edmonton; Suspect Arrested

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada: A 55-year-old Indian-origin man, identified as Arvi Singh Sagoo, has died after being violently assaulted when he confronted a stranger urinating on his car in downtown Edmonton.

According to a statement released by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS), officers responded to an emergency call around 2:20 a.m. on October 19 regarding an assault near 109 Street and 100 Avenue.

Police said that upon arrival, they found an unconscious man who was immediately treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Despite receiving medical care, Arvi Sagoo succumbed to his injuries on October 24, five days after the incident.

Investigators have arrested 40-year-old Kyle Papin, who now faces charges of aggravated assault. Authorities confirmed that the victim and the accused did not know each other prior to the attack.

As reported by Global News, Arvi and his girlfriend were returning to their vehicle after dining at a nearby restaurant when they saw a man urinating on their car. When Arvi questioned the individual, he was suddenly attacked and struck in the head, causing him to collapse. His girlfriend immediately called for help, and emergency responders transported him to the hospital, where he remained on life support until his passing.

The assault has been described as “unprovoked.”

Friends and family have remembered Arvi as a cheerful and devoted family man who deeply cared for his loved ones. He is survived by two teenage children.

Police have stated that the EPS Homicide Unit is continuing the investigation, and additional charges may be filed in connection with Arvi’s death. The accused, Kyle Papin, is scheduled to appear in court on November 4.
