Indian-Origin McDonald’s Employee Honoured with $40,000 After 40 Years of Service in the US
Saugus, Massachusetts, USA: Pargan Singh, affectionately known as “Balbir,” has become a local legend in Saugus, Massachusetts, after dedicating 40 years to a single McDonald’s restaurant. His long-standing commitment was celebrated in style by his colleagues, who surprised him with a red-carpet event and a generous $40,000 gift, recognising his loyalty and hard work.
Singh, who moved to the United States before joining McDonald’s in Saugus, began his career by performing basic kitchen duties and gradually took on more responsibilities. “I started with simple tasks, helping in the back, taking out the trash, and learning everything step by step. After three or four months, I was promoted to swing manager and gradually moved to the front,” Singh recalled.
Lindsay Wallin, the current owner of the restaurant, explained that Singh initially worked under her father and has remained a key member of the team ever since. Now overseeing four McDonald’s outlets, she considers him a cornerstone of the business. “Hiring Balbir was one of the best decisions. He has been a fundamental part of our company, and his dedication is unmatched,” she said.
To mark his four decades of service, Singh was treated to a special evening, including a limo ride and a dinner where staff rolled out the red carpet in his honour. During the celebration, he received a $40,000 check as a token of appreciation, according to Boston News.
Wallin described the celebration as an obvious choice. “He’s dedicated, respected by everyone, and our employees affectionately call him ‘papa bear.’ Honouring him in a big way was the least we could do,” she said.
For Singh, the secret to his enduring loyalty is simple: “It’s like family here. That’s why I’ve stayed for so long,” he shared.
