Indian-Origin Man from New York Arrested for Allegedly Stealing $50,000 While Holding Two Jobs
New York City, NY, USA: Authorities in New York have arrested Mehul Goswami, a 39-year-old Indian-origin resident of Latham, New York, on allegations of illegally earning over $50,000 by working two jobs simultaneously — one with the New York State Office of Information Technology Services and another in the town of Malta.
According to investigators, Goswami was officially employed by the state’s IT department while allegedly working full-time for a separate employer in Malta. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the New York State Inspector General’s Office, led the investigation that resulted in his arrest on charges of grand larceny.
New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang condemned the alleged misconduct, stating that public servants are expected to uphold honesty and responsibility in their roles. “Mr. Goswami’s alleged actions constitute a serious violation of public trust,” Lang said. She further remarked that holding another full-time position while being paid by the state misuses government funds and taxpayer money.
Goswami was taken into custody on October 15 and charged with second-degree grand larceny, a Class C felony under New York law. He appeared before Judge James A. Fauci in the Malta Town Court and was later released on his own recognisance, according to a report by CBS 6.
Under the current New York bail regulations, the offence does not qualify for mandatory bail conditions. Sheriff Michael Zurlo praised the collaboration between law enforcement agencies, stating, “This case demonstrates the effectiveness of strong inter-agency cooperation, and we look forward to a just outcome in court.”
