Indian Origin Woman Admits Shoplifting At Target, Faces Court In US

An Indian woman was filmed visibly distressed and struggling to breathe while being questioned by police at a US retail store after a shoplifting incident on January 15.

The bodycam footage, recently uploaded on YouTube, sparked wide discussion online.

In the 40-minute video, the woman repeatedly apologizes, declines an interpreter despite speaking Gujarati, and admits stealing items to resell. Police found she had a Washington driver’s license and was a repeat offender at the same store.

Though released that day, she was warned of trespassing charges if she returned and will still face court. The video drew mixed reactions some sympathized with her distress, while others criticized her intent to profit from theft.

The case highlights rising shoplifting concerns in the US, where major retailers like Target face increasing theft. Retailers are now enforcing tighter regulations and urging harsher consequences for violations.
