Protests by Nepalese youth against political corruption have turned violent, forcing several ministers, including PM KP Sharma Oli, to resign. Riots have killed 51 people, including an Indian woman, and caused widespread looting and property damage.
On Thursday, a bus carrying Indian pilgrims from Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu was attacked while returning to India. Miscreants pelted stones, smashed mirrors, and robbed passengers of cash, jewellery, bags, and mobile phones. Several, mainly from Andhra Pradesh, were injured.
Bus driver Raj said, “The attackers smashed the windshield and looted our belongings.” Seven or eight passengers were hurt, but the Nepal Army rescued them. The damaged bus reached the Sonauli border in UP on Thursday evening.
Security along the Indo-Nepal border, including in UP, Bihar, and West Bengal, has been tightened to prevent further incidents.
