According to the Santa Clara County medical examiner, the cause of death is still under investigation. Mountain View Police, however, confirmed that there were no indications of foul play or suspicious behavior, and the incident is not being handled as a criminal case. At Microsoft, Pandey was a member of the engineering team focused on Fabric and Synapse, data analytics platforms rivaling firms like Snowflake Inc. He reported directly to Scott Guthrie, Microsoft’s executive vice president of Cloud and AI. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2020, Pandey had worked at Walmart Labs, Apple, and Illumina, and began his professional journey in India with Newgen Software in Noida and John Deere in Pune. He completed his undergraduate studies in India and earned advanced degrees from California State University and San Jose State University.
In a post on social media, Santa Clara City Council candidate Satish Chandra stated, “With profound sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news of Pratik Pandey’s untimely passing… His sudden loss has left everyone in deep shock and mourning.” Chandra also criticized Microsoft for taking nearly 42 hours to notify the community about Pandey’s death and urged Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen to carry out a thorough investigation.
