Indonesian Protests Over Taxi Drivers Death Leave 3 Dead

Protests erupted in Jakarta over lawmakers' pay and escalated after a police armoured vehicle killed a ride-hailing motorbike driver.

Three people died and five were injured after protesters in Makassar, South Sulawesi, torched a regional parliament building during escalating unrest.

Some victims were reportedly trapped inside, while others were hurt jumping from the building.

President Prabowo Subianto, in office since October, visited the driver’s family and pledged to oversee the investigation.

In Jakarta, authorities observed sporadic property damage and minor disruptions to public transit, including interruptions to MRT and bus services.

Demonstrations also occurred in Bandung and Yogyakarta, though no major protests were reported on Saturday.
