Kuwait Revokes Citizenship of 37,000 People in Sweeping Crackdown

Dubai: From today onwards, you are no longer citizens of our country. We are revoking your citizenship, declared the Kuwait government, shocking thousands of individuals. Among those affected are people who have been residing in the country for over 20 years, including several actors and celebrities. A majority of the individuals who lost their citizenship are women. Not just dozens or hundreds a staggering 37,000 people have been targeted with this move by the Kuwaiti government.

This process, which began in August, has reportedly resulted in the loss of nationality for around 26,000 women. Local media sources say that these women had acquired citizenship through marriage. The total number of those affected could be even higher, according to reports.

In addition to this, the government has also revoked dual and illegally obtained citizenships. The move is part of a broader initiative by Kuwaiti authorities to cleanse the citizenship records and eliminate fraudulent or unqualified entries.
